Good to know about Grandeur Flooring

Grandeur engineered hardwood

Grandeur's engineered hardwood is all 3/4 inch thick and built on what it calls "a strong multi-surface core, with layers running in opposite directions", which Grandeur says enables the floors to withstand the Canadian climate. Collections include Scandinavia, Paradise, Ultra, Sunshine, Metropolitan, Enterprise, Crown Land, Regal, Regal Plus, Atelier, Majesty, Evergreen and Elite in white oak, Artisan and Elevation in hickory, Divine in maple and Prestige in American oak. Widths run from 5 inches up to 9-1/2 inches on Elite, and Herringbone and Regal Plus come in herringbone.

Solid hardwood, vinyl and laminate

Grandeur also makes solid hardwood, vinyl and laminate. Its finishes include wire-brushed, hand-scraped and saw-marked looks.

Why Grandeur flooring Edmonton homeowners ask about

Wide-plank white oak is one of the most requested looks we see, and Grandeur's range has a lot of it, from 6 inch boards to 9-1/2 inch planks. The cross-layered engineered core is the reason engineered hardwood copes better than solid with our seasonal swings. Grandeur's site also shows FloorScore, CARB and FSC marks.

Planning a hardwood floor

Hardwood suits main floors, bedrooms, dining rooms and stairs. Our hardwood flooring page explains how we prepare the subfloor, acclimatise the boards and install.

Solid or engineered? Solid hardwood is one piece of wood all the way through and is nailed down over a wood subfloor on or above grade. Engineered hardwood has a real wood wear layer over a layered core, which keeps it more stable as humidity changes and gives more options for where and how it can be installed. We can walk you through which suits your house before you fall for a colour.

Edmonton conditions

Edmonton air is very dry in winter and humid in summer, and wood moves with it. A humidifier in winter and a little patience with acclimatising go a long way. We check moisture before any hardwood goes down.

Questions to bring to the showroom

Which rooms, and do the floors need to run into each other without a break? Is there a staircase? Do you want a light Scandinavian oak or something darker and more textured? Bring photos of your cabinets and trim, and we'll pull boards to match.
