Hardwood Flooring in Edmonton

Looking for hardwood flooring Edmonton homes can live with through dry winters and humid summers? Nothing else looks or feels like real wood.

Natural-toned hardwood running through an open living room with a stone-faced fireplace, a sectional sofa and a hide rug.
  • Since 2006
  • 1,400+ projects
  • In-house crews

A hardwood floor adds warmth and value, and with care it lasts for decades. The catch here is the climate, which is why choosing the right construction matters as much as choosing the colour.

Visit the showroom at 10512 178 St NW to compare species and finishes side by side.

Room-by-room fit

  • A sunny living room with a medium hardwood floor, a shag rug, grey sofas and a dining area beyond.

Living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms

Ideal. These are the dry, lived-in parts of the house where wood shines.

  • An entry hall with dark hardwood flooring, a chandelier, panelled walls and a stair railing.

    Hallways

Good, especially with a harder species like oak or maple.

  • A white shaker kitchen with a grey island, white countertops and stainless appliances over a dark wood floor.

    Kitchens

Possible with care, but many families prefer luxury vinyl plank for spill resistance.

  • A basement living room with warm wood-look plank flooring, a beige sectional and a shag rug.

    Bathrooms, laundry rooms and basements

We don't recommend hardwood where water is a regular visitor. Tile or luxury vinyl is a better fit.

Solid vs engineered hardwood flooring Edmonton buyers compare

  • Solid hardwood

    60–100 years with care

One piece of wood all the way through. It has a long lifespan and can be sanded and refinished many times.

  • Engineered hardwood

    typically 30–40 years

A stable, layered core topped with a real hardwood veneer. Its layered construction gives it more dimensional stability when indoor humidity changes through the year, which makes it our usual recommendation for Edmonton homes. Some engineered floors can be refinished once or twice.

Species: oak, maple, walnut and cherry are the common choices, each with its own tone and grain. Oak and maple are the hardest-wearing.

Hardwood and the Edmonton climate

Seasonal temperature swings and dry winters affect natural wood more than any other floor. If you choose hardwood, keeping indoor humidity in a sensible range and letting the flooring acclimate inside your home before installation helps protect it over the long term. We plan acclimation into every hardwood schedule.

How a hardwood project works with LCF

  1. Consult

In the showroom or by phone. We talk through rooms, species, finish and budget.

  2. Measure

We measure the space and check the subfloor and moisture.

  3. Removal and prep

Old flooring can be removed and disposed of, and any uneven or damaged subfloor is addressed first.

  4. Install

The wood acclimates, then our in-house crew installs and cleans up.

Hardwood FAQs

Is engineered hardwood better than solid for Edmonton homes?

Engineered hardwood's layered construction gives it more stability as indoor humidity changes through the year. Solid hardwood is still an excellent option in suitable areas and can be refinished multiple times.

How long does hardwood last?

Solid hardwood can last 60–100 years with care; engineered typically 30–40 years.

Is hardwood pet-friendly?

It can be. Species, finish and hardness matter if scratching is a concern, and area rugs help in high-traffic zones.

Is LVP cheaper than hardwood?

Usually, yes, comparing material and installation together. Hardwood costs more but gives you genuine wood and, depending on the product, can be refinished in the future. If your existing floor is worn but sound, see hardwood refinishing.

Can hardwood floors be refinished?

Solid hardwood can be refinished multiple times. Some engineered options can be refinished once or twice.

What’s the best hardwood for durability?

Oak and maple are popular choices due to their hardness and scratch resistance.
