Tile and Natural Stone Flooring in Edmonton

Tile flooring Edmonton homes rely on is the floor you choose when water, slush, mud and heavy traffic are part of daily life.

The Alley at West Edmonton Mall: large-format marble-look porcelain tile running through the seating area, under a mural wall and a hanging tree.
  • Since 2006
  • 1,400+ projects
  • In-house crews

Porcelain, ceramic and natural stone resist moisture, stains and wear, and a well-laid tile floor will outlast almost anything else in the house.

Our showroom at 10512 178 St NW carries porcelain, ceramic and stone in modern and classic styles, and we help with layout as well as selection, which is where a tile job is won or lost.

Tile types we carry

  • Porcelain tile

Dense, durable and moisture-resistant. It's fired at higher temperatures than ceramic, so it is less porous. It's our first recommendation for bathrooms, kitchens, entries and commercial floors.

  • Ceramic tile

Versatile, affordable and lighter, well suited to walls and floors, backsplashes and bathrooms.

  • Natural stone

Marble, slate and travertine. Every piece is different and stone ages beautifully, but it is more porous and needs sealing.

Tile and the Edmonton climate

Edmonton's seasonal temperature changes and dry winters are hard on natural wood, but tile is one of the most stable floors you can choose. In a basement, the condition of the concrete and subfloor is evaluated before installation so any moisture or preparation requirements are addressed first.

What's included

  • Design guidance and layout support: pattern, tile size, grout lines and transitions
  • Precise measurement of every room
  • Removal of the old floor and a subfloor assessment; tile needs a flat, solid base
  • Installation by experienced tile setters on our in-house crew
  • Available as material only, or material plus installation

How a tile project works

  1. Consult

Bring photos or plans to the showroom.

  2. Measure

We measure and check the subfloor.

  3. Removal and prep

Old flooring can be removed and disposed of, and any uneven or damaged subfloor is corrected.

  4. Install

    Set, grout and clean up.

Tile FAQs

What's the difference between porcelain and ceramic tile?

Porcelain is denser with lower water absorption, so it's popular for floors and wet areas. Ceramic is also durable and versatile and is common on floors, walls and backsplashes.

What flooring is best for bathrooms?

Porcelain and ceramic tile are the most popular bathroom floors because of their durability and moisture resistance. Some luxury vinyl products also work well when installed to the manufacturer's requirements.

Is natural stone harder to maintain?

Stone is more porous and needs sealing, but it offers beauty and longevity when properly cared for.

Can tile go over my existing floor?

Sometimes. It depends on the existing material, its condition, height differences and the manufacturer's requirements. We'll inspect the floor and tell you whether it should come out.

Can tile be used outdoors?

Yes—porcelain and certain stone tiles are suitable for outdoor use, depending on the finish and climate compatibility.
