What Magna lists for VSPC

VSPC stands for Veneer SPC. In Magna's words, it offers "a stunning combination of real hardwood beauty and the practicality of our MBA SPC core." In plain terms: the top of the plank is real wood, and the body of the plank is a rigid stone plastic composite core, like the core of a rigid vinyl floor.

  • Water resistant up to 12 hours

Which Magna describes as the highest grade.

Good to know about VSPC Hardwood Vinyl

What Magna says VSPC is built for

Magna's VSPC page lists these details:

  • 7 mm thick, with the Välinge 5G locking system.

  • IXPE backing for sound and impact isolation.

  • Water resistant for up to 12 hours.

  • FloorScore rating for indoor air quality.

  • Easy installation.

  • Species: American white oak, hickory and walnut, which Magna describes as the highest grade.

Note the wording: Magna calls VSPC water resistant, not waterproof. That's the honest difference between a real-wood surface and an all-vinyl floor, and it's worth thinking about for bathrooms and laundry rooms. For full detail, see the manufacturer's warranty and installation documents.

Why VSPC flooring Edmonton homeowners ask about

People usually come to VSPC because they want real wood underfoot but are nervous about solid hardwood. Edmonton's dry winters are part of that. Solid wood moves with humidity through the heating season, and a rigid core is designed for stability. VSPC sits between engineered hardwood and vinyl, and it's easiest to understand with a sample in your hand.

Where VSPC makes sense

Main floors, living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms are the natural fit: rooms where you want the look and feel of wood and spills are wiped up quickly. For basements, bathrooms and rooms that see standing water, an all-vinyl floor is usually the safer choice. Magna's own rigid core vinyl is one option to compare.

Our hardwood flooring page explains how VSPC compares with engineered and solid hardwood, and our luxury vinyl plank flooring page covers the all-vinyl side.

Installation

A click floor only feels solid if the subfloor is flat, so we check for dips and squeaks before we start.

Questions to bring to the showroom

A few questions make a visit faster and the choice easier. Which rooms are you doing, and do any of them see water, such as a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room or basement? Do you have pets or young kids? Is the subfloor wood or a concrete slab, and does any part of it squeak or dip? Are stairs part of the job? Bring rough room sizes or a floor plan if you have one, and a photo of the room in daylight. With those answers we can usually narrow a wall of samples down to three or four that genuinely fit.

Living with a real wood surface

A real wood top layer behaves like wood. It can show scratches from grit and pet claws, it ages and changes colour with sunlight, and it should be cleaned the way the manufacturer recommends rather than with a wet mop. Felt pads under chairs, mats at the doors and wiping spills promptly keep it looking good for years. If those habits sound like too much for a particular room, that's a sign an all-vinyl floor may suit it better, and we'll tell you so.
