Good to know about RevWood Laminate

What Mohawk says RevWood is built for

Mohawk describes three things on its RevWood page:

  • Crafted for durability: waterproof performance, pet stain protection and fade resistance.

  • Planet friendly: Mohawk calls RevWood planet-friendly, carbon-negative flooring.

  • Long-lasting beauty: hardwood visuals with variation in colour, texture and edge treatment.

Mohawk also uses what it calls Signature Technology to capture the colour, texture and look of natural hardwood in its laminate. For detail on a specific product, see the documentation Mohawk publishes, and see the manufacturer's warranty for what is and isn't covered.

Why RevWood laminate Edmonton homeowners ask about

The usual reason is the look. People want a wood floor in an open main floor but worry about dogs, kids, boots and spills. Laminate gives a wood look with a harder-wearing surface, and RevWood is Mohawk's take on it.

The second reason is Edmonton's climate. Our winters are dry, and solid hardwood moves with humidity through the heating season. Many families decide they'd rather have the look of wood without that worry, especially in rooms near an entry door.

Laminate or vinyl?

This is the question we hear most. Both are good choices for busy homes, and the right one depends on the room. Laminate tends to feel more like wood underfoot and has a harder surface. Vinyl, such as Mohawk's SolidTech, is the usual pick for bathrooms, laundry rooms and lower levels. If you're torn, we'll lay both out next to each other and talk it through.

Our hardwood flooring page is also worth a look if you're still deciding between real wood and a wood look.

Edmonton homes and laminate

We check the subfloor before anything goes down. A flat, sound subfloor is what makes a click floor feel solid and stay quiet, so any dips or squeaks are dealt with first. On a basement slab we also check the concrete.

Planning a RevWood project

Most laminate jobs start in the showroom. Mention stairs early, because they change the plan. See our residential flooring page for how we approach a whole-home project.

Questions to bring to the showroom

A few questions make a visit faster and the choice easier. Which rooms are you doing, and do any of them see water, such as a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room or basement? Do you have pets or young kids? Is the subfloor wood or a concrete slab, and does any part of it squeak or dip? Are stairs part of the job? Bring rough room sizes or a floor plan if you have one, and a photo of the room in daylight. With those answers we can usually narrow a wall of samples down to three or four that genuinely fit.
