The Kennedy luxury vinyl collections

Not every room needs a thick rigid plank. Kennedy's luxury vinyl range is the thinner, more flexible side of its vinyl offering. Kennedy offers it in two formats, dry back and loose lay, and we'll explain which install method suits your room when you visit. Either way, it is a different kind of floor from Kennedy's stone core flooring, which clicks together and floats.

  • Shamrock Surfaces Newport II

    9" x 48" plank, 20 mil wear layer, 4.5 mm thick.

  • Shamrock Surfaces Newport II XL

9" x 60" plank, a foot longer, for fewer end joints.

  • Nature’s Impression Maxima Plus

    7" x 48" plank, 12 mil wear layer, 2 mm thick.

Why homeowners choose Kennedy luxury vinyl in Edmonton

  • Two install formats

Good to know about Luxury Vinyl

The Kennedy luxury vinyl Edmonton collections

Here is what Kennedy publishes for each collection.

Shamrock Surfaces Newport II

  • 9" x 48" plank

  • 20 mil (0.50 mm) PU-coated wear layer

  • 4.5 mm thick

Shamrock Surfaces Newport II XL

  • 9" x 60" plank, the longer version of Newport II

  • 20 mil (0.50 mm) PU-coated wear layer

  • 4.5 mm thick

Nature's Impression Maxima Plus

  • 7" x 48" plank

  • 12 mil (0.30 mm) PU-coated wear layer

  • 2 mm thick

The two Newport collections share a wear layer and thickness. The choice is mostly about length: the XL plank runs a foot longer, so a large room shows fewer end joints. Maxima Plus is much thinner, with a lighter wear layer, which makes it a different kind of product rather than a smaller version of the same thing.

Kennedy lists a warranty level for each collection. Ask us for the manufacturer's warranty document and we'll go through it with you before you decide.

What the wear layer means for you

The wear layer is the clear top coat that takes the scuffs. In general, a thicker wear layer stands up better to heavy traffic, pets and chair legs, and a thinner one suits lighter-use rooms. Newport's 20 mil layer sits at the heavier-duty end of what Kennedy offers here, while Maxima Plus at 12 mil is lighter.

We're not going to tell you one is always the right answer. A guest bedroom and a mudroom don't need the same floor, and we'll help you match the product to the room.

Where it fits in an Edmonton home

Rental suites and basement apartments. Dry back and loose lay vinyl can be a practical way to refresh a suite, as long as the subfloor is in good shape.

Kitchens and laundry rooms. Vinyl handles spills and mopping well. As general advice, we still recommend wiping water up quickly and following the manufacturer's care guide.

Bedrooms and upstairs rooms. Lighter traffic means a thinner product may be all you need.

Larger rooms. Newport II XL's longer plank helps a bigger room read as one floor.

Thin vinyl shows what's beneath it. A dip or bump in the subfloor can telegraph through a 2 mm or 4.5 mm plank, so preparation counts for more with these products than with a rigid core. Edmonton concrete slabs and older plywood floors often need levelling first, and we check that before we quote.
